Christmas in Cambridge

Over Christmas, I was in Cambridge visiting Resurrection Lutheran Church. I got to play viola for the Christmas morning service and later that day took a walk around Grantchester Meadows. Another famous service that takes place in Cambridge each year is the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols service at King's College on Christmas Eve. Although I didn't attend the service in person, I was outside King's College earlier in the day and I listened live to the BBC broadcast. I had Christmas lunch with an interesting old lady from Resurrection and her sons who were visiting from Edinburgh and France. Barbara has lived and worked in Tangier (Morocco), Australia, France, and England. She's originally from the Newcastle area and still has many cousins there. She told me about their Christmas tradition of bringing coal in exchange for something good to eat!
